Big Creek, Alaska

What a week this has been!  I have had performances the last three days in a row, so it's been interesting trying to find some time to sit down and write.  I guess I'm feeling the need to get out of the city this week.  I was feeling inspired by seclusion, and so this week my memories take me to Big Creek, Alaska.  It's definitely the furthest from anywhere I've ever been, hiding along 100 miles of dirt roads on Price of Whales Island.

Big Creek, Alaska

Miles from nowhere, hidden away

is the kind of place found only

in dreamscapes and hearts.

Overhead the Northern Lights play

across a velvet sky scattered with

a million twinkling diamond stars.

The dark here is complete.

No pink of city lights to

pollute the horizon,

no distant sound of cars

or buzz of airplanes

or chatter of other people.

Ancient trees form a cathedral,

their clean earthy scent fill the air.

A gateway to the heavens;

untouched, unspoiled, pristine.

Or perhaps this is heaven.

A place to commune with gods,

dine with spirits and honor the passed.
