Ham Household Progress

It's been a while since I've updated on the progress of the house.  This past month, we've spent a lot of time refining the plans for the future layout of the house.  After many, many drafts, we have finally settled on something that opens up the downstairs plan, allows us to move the bathroom upstairs as well as have a guest water closet downstairs.  We also decided to tear out the old farmhouse style stairs and start over with a relocated stairway that is less steep and narrow, and overall, much more safe.

Earlier this week, we had our first meeting with our general contractor as well as some of the subcontractors that are going to be working on this project.  Everyone seemed positive and excited to get started, and could see our vision for what this house can be some day.  Jerimiah and I are so incredibly happy that we've been given the opportunity to take this old run down home and save it from the wrecking ball.

We will be starting real work on the property next week.  We plan on taking down no less than five trees and a nasty old laurel hedge that divides the yard in a strange way.  After that, we're going to be putting in a brand new sewer line, running electricity on to the property as well as water, and possibly a gas line.  In a little over two weeks, we will be moving a trailer onto the property and living in it while the renovation is completed.

Contractors walk through the house and discuss the next steps.  It all feels so very surreal to me.

Underneath a patina of dust lies the beautiful original details of the 1909 home.  It just needs a little help to make it shine.
